Technology has come a long way since 1922, when Ralph Samuelson invented water skiing on Lake Pepin in Minnesota. He used a couple of boards as skis and a clothesline as a towrope! We enjoy the sport today, because he was looking for adventure on the water – and found it!
When a family has a history of lake-living and spending more time on the water, it seems, than on land, well…it becomes part of their DNA. That’s the premise of our business. Making sure that other families have a chance to enjoy water sports as much as ours has.
When trying to find that adventure and fun on the water, water skiing seems to be the first step for many people. At H2O, we welcome first-time skiers as sincerely as we do the pros! After all, every pro had a first water-skiing experience that created their love for the sport.
No matter your skill level, our certified instructors enthusiastically offer their expertise. If you need personal training to get up on the skis for the first time, our trainers will make it a fun and exciting experience. Alternatively, if you are a pro preparing for a competition, we have the equipment and experts to handle the towboat…at whatever speed you need to prepare for your event.
Our camps are the ideal place to begin your water skiing adventures! We have several packages available and they include food, land-based activities, classes and private lessons. Check out our Booking tab for details!
As one of the newer additions to water sports, wake boarding is traceable back to the 1960s. Surfers were trying to create an alternative for those days when the water was too calm for surfing. Eventually, a surfer crafted a cross between a water ski and a surfboard. In the late part of the 1980s, another enthusiast developed a neutral-buoyancy version, called the Hyperlite wakeboard. That innovation was the basis for the major growth spurt of the sport, since it allowed easy deep-water starts. Now, it is the fastest-growing water sport globally. Wake boarding is the perfect combination of water sport, exercise, fun, skill and adventure!
In North Carolina, we enjoy the “butter” on Belews Lake and wake boarding is one of our favorite activities. With the calm, warm water conditions here, the lake is perfect for wake boarding and all water sports. Start early in the season and continue through the fall! We love sharing our favorite spots with water-sport enthusiasts! Our experts at H2O are ready to teach you the basics or provide the wake from one of our new Ski Nautique boats.
Join one of our camp sessions to enjoy the full experience of learning a new water skill along with your friends. Or, come alone and make new friends! We hold sessions during the early part of the season and include private lessons, classroom instruction, land-based activities and wake boarding on Belews Lake. Choose from single-day, 3-night and 4-night packages. See our Booking tab for details.
Perhaps, you prefer to handle your own speed and carve your own wake on a beautiful, serene lake in the heart of North Carolina. Jetting around this lake on a personal water craft is an adventure in itself. However, by renting a jet ski for four or eight hours, you will have the opportunity to cover a big portion of the lake’s 3,864-acre surface area. With 88 miles of shoreline, there is no shortage of scenery and fascinating coves and inlets to explore.
Jet skiing has risen in popularity since Kawasaki released the first stand-up personal watercraft in 1972. When they named it a “Jet Ski,” the title stuck and has become the generic term for any PWC. The term is even used as a verb! The Jet Ski remained the only widely available PWC for 16 years, until a sit-down version of the Sea-Doo was re-introduced in 1988.
Our equipment is all top-quality, of course, and inspected daily. We want our visitors to enjoy a relaxing, safe day on the water with reliable boats and jet skis. Have fun exploring the lake at your own pace and enjoying the great North Carolina weather!
The best thing about jet skiing is that here on Belews Lake, you have a long season of warm water temperatures and great weather. That combination leads to many hours of enjoying water sports with friends and family. Our family has enjoyed the area for many years and we want to share that pleasure with our visitors.
