Here are some answers to questions you may have about the entire experience!

Where Did Jet Skis Originate?

Kawasaki, the Japanese vehicle manufacturer, released the first stand-up personal watercraft in 1972. The final decision on the name Jet Ski came as the craft was gaining global popularity. In fact, the name became such a part of our language that it is now the generic term for any PWC!

After 16 years of Kawasaki’s stand-up version’s success, Sea-Doo released a sit-down PWC in 1988.

Today, there are three major brands on the market: Kawasaki, Yamaha and Sea-Doo.

Are Jet Skiing and other Boating Activities Popular in NC?

North Carolina was the 9th state in the country in recreational boating economic activity in 2018, with total revenues of $5.5 billion. That was the 7th consecutive year of growth in that industry, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association. They anticipate fast growth in the coming years, with trends moving toward outdoor activities with the immediate family that do not involve close contact with others.

We feel that our location and team spirit, combined with top-quality equipment and high standards of operation will provide a much-needed opportunity for water sports activities in the central NC foothills.

What Does H2O Sports Life Offer for Fun on the Lake?

At H2O, we bring the lake to life in so many ways. We offer not only jet ski rentals, but wakeboarding, water skiing, water ski camps, tubing and kneeboarding! As you can see, there is no shortage of fun on the lake when you choose H2O Sports Life!

Why Should I Choose H2O Sports Life?

Our founder grew up almost literally on the water! As a waterskiing five-year-old, he formed a love of all water sports and feels that it adds value to his family’s way of life. We want to share that love of family, water, tranquility, exercise and a healthy lifestyle. By maintaining a family-friendly environment in all our activities, we can ensure that everyone has safe and exciting fun on the water.

Of course, our first priority is safety. We inspect all equipment every day and use only top-quality brands.

When you rent your jet ski, you will receive some information about the best places on the lake to avoid crowded areas. Everyone on our team is familiar with the entire lake and surrounding shoreline, so you can get answers to all of your questions. Each day is different and they are familiar with where to go depending on the number of visitors.

What is So Special About Belews Lake for Water Sports?

Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Belews Lake is in the center of a beautiful scenic, uncrowded part of northern central North Carolina. If you are visiting the area, you will enjoy the serene, warm waters of the lake and discover why it has been a favorite spot among local residents and visitors alike for years. We chose it mainly due to the ideal conditions for all water sports. On a typical day, you will find water skiers, boaters, wake boarders, people tubing, sailing and jet skiing. All of these activities are even better, when you are in such a tranquil location.

When you have the freedom of traveling around the lake on your jet skis, you can do some unique exploring on your own. The shoreline abounds with walking trails and the area is mainly uninhabited. You may even spot a loon or beaver in one of the many coves and inlets! If it’s fall or winter, look for the Canadian geese that call this place home. A jetski renter has lots of fun ahead when taking a day to enjoy the beauty of the lake. Create your own jet ski adventure and experience the adrenaline rush of the wide-open spaces on the lake.

Additional Advantages of the Lake

Furthermore, considering the landscape, the ever-changing waterscape, beautiful sailboats and wildlife, there is no shortage of subjects for your photos! Take a photo tour on one of your turns around the lake…you may go home with a masterpiece…or at least a great Instagram post!

Fish abound in the lake and anglers agree that is another relaxing way to spend a warm, sunny day.

Stop at a marina along the shore for lunch or sun block. They welcome visitors and carry a large supply of sporting accessories.

The warm waters of this lake – actually a man-made reservoir – make it even more attractive for water sports. Renting a jet ski is the perfect way to enjoy the benefits of the lake. You’ll also get some exercise as you ride along and control your PWC!

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

The convenient location of this lake means that you can be in downtown Greensboro or Winston-Salem in the Piedmont Triad area and in half an hour, you can be enjoying the tranquility of Belews Lake! It’s an easy drive along Route 158 or NC Highway 65.

Want to visit a state park after your adventure on the lake? Hanging Rock State Park is only 15 miles away! It’s another scenic ride in this beautiful section of the country.

What are the Jet Ski Laws in North Carolina?

Of course, all drivers of personal watercraft (PWC) must abide by some local rules.

  • You must be a minimum of 14 years of age to operate a PWC with more than 10 HP on state waters. The minimum to operate a jet ski is 17 years of age.
  • At H2O Sports Life, we rent only to individuals 25 years of age or older.
  • North Carolina law does not allow PWC operation between sunset and sunrise.
  • Everyone on the Jet Ski must wear a life jacket.
  • Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 who operates a watercraft must have a NASBLA-approved North Carolina Boater Education Card. The card is good for life and available online at https://www.boaterexam.com®
  • You must not exceed 5 miles per hour when within 100 feet of other vessels, moored or in motion, swimmers, docks and piers.

It is easy to get the Boater Education Card online before your visit to the lake!

How Can I Stay Safe on a Jet Ski?.

As with all water sports, safety is the first priority. Jet skis are no exception. A personal watercraft offers the utmost in an exhilarating excursion on a beautiful body of water. Jet skiing can take your focus off of the problems of the world and allow your senses to take in the joys of nature and the beauty of your surroundings.

Although they are a source of fun and adventure, jet skis are not toys. One must act responsibly when driving these heavy vehicles.

There are also some common-sense practices that make your jet skiing adventure even more enjoyable.

First in importance on any water vessel is a life jacket. We equip all boats and jet skis in our fleet with necessary safety equipment, including a life jacket for all water skiers, boat personnel and passengers, wake boarders, wake surfers and jet ski renters.

Importantly, the U.S. Coast Guard regulations stipulate that a jet ski is a Class A vessel. That means that all regulations for boats under 16 feet apply also to jet skis. All H2O jet skis meet the Coast Guard criteria and have the following items onboard:

  • Fire extinguisher – a Coast-Guard-approved model
  • Backfire Flame Arrestor
  • Ventilation System
  • Life Vest
  • Vessel registration – decals displayed in appropriate locations
  • Whistle or horn to use as a signaling device

Additionally, the operator of any jet ski must wear a cord, elastic or lanyard around their wrist, holding the key that is in the ignition. If a driver were to fall off of the craft, this ensures that the boat will stop driving through the water.

Why Should I Drive Defensively?

It is always safer to drive defensively. Jet skis are heavy and can take up to 300 feet to stop, if you are driving at full speed. Taking a chance and trying to jump a wave created by a passing boat could cause major problems if the boat doesn’t land properly or worse yet, land upside down. The risk is not worth taking. We want all of our guests to return safely and trust that they will use good judgement when out on the water.

Always be aware of your surroundings and watch the path ahead to see other boats, skis, wake boards and swimmers.

Now that we have answered some questions, let’s move on to the specifics of your jet ski rental near me at Belews Lake.
